Thanksgiving To Go

Imagine just spending all Thanksgiving morning standing over the hot stove, making sure the turkey is not dry, the stuffing isn’t to moist, the mashed potatoes are mashed enough, and the pumpkin pie has the right amount of  spices, to just pack up all the food into little bags and bowls to take with you in the car. Since black Friday is no longer really on Friday and all the stores are now opened around six on Thanksgiving it only make sense to take a Thanksgiving meal to go. All of the sales are much more important than spending time with the family at the dinner table. You can bond in the car as you eat your meal out of plastic bowls with plastic forks and knives together. Trust me you do not want to miss the new bath and body works bag they are giving out to the first 50 people who get there at six, or the new Victoria Secret underwear that they only have 30 pairs of. So it would only make sense to spend all that time cooking and preparing a meal to shove it into bowls and bags and throw into the car.

What would make things even better is if fast food restaurants had Thanksgiving happy meals, so people could just go through the drive thru of McDonalds and order their Thanksgiving food and then head straight to the mall, without the hassle of having to spend all that time making the food themselves they can just spend making sure they know all the sales available and plan out their routine.  The whole importance of sitting down at the table as a family is far less important than it is to go to the mall right away to get there when the doors open. To make sure that you get all the sales and the gifts you have to have. The new Xbox your son wants that you just got on sale probably tastes a whole lot better than the turkey you spent hours on to just scarf down in the car. Family bonding on Thanksgiving now means splitting up so each member can conquer a sale in a different store, so there will no longer be any worrying about whether or not they will make it in time for the sale. Instead of helping out making dinner, they are helping out by getting the shopping done. What could be more family oriented. The dinner was not important, what was most important was that while all other families were sitting down eating dinner reminiscing on all the things they should be thankful for your family was at the mall making sure the sales came first. Thanksgiving just needs to be a to-go holiday. Nothing sounds better than sitting in the car eating turkey and mashed potatoes out of a baggy on the way to the mall to get some black “Friday” shopping done.

Medically Assisted Suicide

Assisted suicide is committed when a doctor  injects a lethal dose of drugs into the patient with his permission and kills him. This may sound awful at first and right away people would be extremely against it, However, I learned about this in my sociology class my senior year of high school, and once people understand why people are committing this act then it does not sound as awful. I watched a video once about a man who was going through with assisted suicide, he knew exactly what he was doing and what was going to happen, and it was okay with it.

Assisted suicide is illegal in most places, due to the fact that it is considered killing another person but before a doctor can even go through with assisted suicide the patient must go through a series of counseling that informs that about what they are doing and makes them aware that this is something they can not go back and change. Once the procedure is done then it is done. Normally people who want assisted suicide is those who are terminally ill, people who are paralyzed or have any type of muscle disorder causing them to not be able to take care of themselves, people who no longer want to be a burden to anyone else and know that they will not live very long to begin with.

The procedure of assisted suicide happens in a doctors office or a hospital, all it consists of is normally an IV in their arm. The loved ones of the patient are allowed to come in and say their good byes before they pass away. Then once the procedure is taking place, they record it for legal purposes stating that the patient was the one who wanted to this done and they give full legal consent to assisted suicide, and then they push a button on their own that injects them with the drug that will kill them.

As bad as this may sound, I believe that assisted suicide should be legal. For people who have a terminal illness and can no longer take care of themselves and do daily things that they used to be able to, they should be given a choice to be put out of their misery. It normally does not hurt them and they just peacefully fall asleep and then they pass away.

Battle of the Gender Roles

As many can tell at a young age, women and men physically do not look a like. However, they were
raised with different gender roles; men and women were expected to do different tasks. The lines
between gender roles of men and women have been  blurred over the past few years, but I decided to
take a step back. My contrast essay is based on traditional male gender roles vs traditional female
gender roles. Contrasting them by what they are expected to do day by day, how they should present
themselves, what type of jobs they should have, and when they are expected to grow up. There is
a big difference between these gender roles, and what is expected from men and women.

Hard Decisions Made Easier

In the TED talk, "How to Make Hard Decisions" by Ruth Chang. She talked about how on an every day basis people are faced with hard decisions. Whether they are big decisions, like should we get married, or should I move to the city. They also can be faced with smaller decisions that are also difficult such as, what should I have for breakfast? or, should I buy that dress? Whether the decisions are big or small, people are still faced with them everyday. Ruth Chang talks about how people pick the easier way out, and do not think about the outcome of both. She suggests that instead of thinking that one way is better than the other, she suggests that people think about the decision as neither better or worse then the other choice. To think about the decisions on the same page will help to make an easier decision. Providing numerous examples of her thought process,

I found this TED talk to be effective and very useful. I am faced with hard decisions almost everyday, and instead of thinking about one being better than the other I can now think about them as both being a good choice, and figuring out which one has the better outcome. Many people who watched this video will be able to change the way they make hard decisions, and realize that not all decisions are too difficult to make.
